Directions

All groups must provide their own transportation to the trail head where treks begin. The trail head is the Black Balsam parking area, just one mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway about 25 miles southwest of Asheville, NC. The trailhead is a large paved parking area. The group will return to this location around mid-day on the last day of the trip.

DIRECTIONS TO THE BLACK BALSAM PARKING AREA
Take I-26 to Hendersonville, NC. Exit at the highway 64 exit toward Hendersonville. Go toward and through Hendersonville on Hwy 64. Proceed approximately 20 miles to the intersection of 64 and 276 in Brevard. Hwy 64 goes left at this intersection, but you continue straight ahead. You will see a Wal-Mart on your right. Continue straight ahead through the stoplight and into the Pisgah National Forest. You will now be on Hwy 276, heading up hill. You will pass the Pisgah Ranger Station. You will go up hill on a curvy road for quite a ways, until you intersect with the Blue Ridge Parkway. Turn left (southwest) on the Parkway. You will be going away from the Pisgah Inn. Continue on the Parkway for ten to twelve miles. When you get to the Graveyard Fields overlook, begin to look out for the sign to the Black Balsam parking area. Turn right at the Black Balsam sign and continue about one mile to the end of that road. The truck with the llamas will be waiting for you.
