Girl Scouts

Challenge Adventures has been working closely with Girl Scout troops and camps.
Since 1990, Challenge Adventures has been working closely with Girl Scout troops and camps. The Challenge Adventure llamas spend much of their summers on two to five day treks with Girl Scouts. Treks with Challenge Adventures give the Scouts a chance to learn about themselves and about the world around them. They build on the key Scout traits of confidence, courage and character. Girls partner with the llamas that carry the heavy gear and food so the Scouts can stay out in the woods for several days.

We understand the importance of helping young women develop competence and self-confidence. Our hiking and back country llama treks can adapt to all ages, from Brownies to Cadettes and Senior Girl Scouts. Our guides help Scouts learn to care for the llamas and how to spin their wool into braided friendship bracelets. Our guides also help Scouts learn about the environment and minimum impact camping. Scouts also do things that will help earn merit badges.

Challenge Adventures works to teach Girl Scouts four key skills.
These are:
  • How to work as a team
  • How to negotiate to solve problems
  • How to trust others appropriately
  • How to have fun without hurting anyone or anything

Most Girl Scouts are already well on their way to achieving these goals. But a trip in the wilderness in the company of llamas and adults who care can help them continue on the path to adulthood.

Challenge Adventures provides these treks from April through October. A maximum of 16 people, including one or two Challenge Adventures guides, can go on a trek outside of the designated wilderness areas. Inside wilderness areas, the maximum group number is ten. We take Scouts from eight years old and up. We ask for one adult leader to come along for each seven Scouts.
