Support Our Work

Challenge Adventures is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization. All of our funding comes from donations, grants and a portion of the fees of paying customers. We also fund a major portion of the expenses out of our own pockets and contribute many hours of our time.

George Appenzeller and Sarah Meadows, who founded this organization, are licensed social workers who have spent a large portion of their careers serving youth. We do this work because we believe in the good things that can happen for the youth who participate in a llama adventure trip. It has never been a profit-making venture. We do it because we love it and want to share what we know.

Nevertheless, there are continuing expenses such as feeding and caring for llamas year-round; renting storage and base camp space; buying, storing and maintaining trucks and equipment; recruiting and training staff. These overhead expenses are not usually covered by grants, but they are necessary in order to have things ready provide the treks for youth and other vulnerable populations. We are exploring ways in which these overhead expenses can be paid. We do not have a large endowment (or any endowment, other than our personal bank account). Therefore, we are seeking supporters, contributors and people willing to help us with their money, ideas and time. If you are willing to help, please call us at 803-771-6663; toll-free at 1-866-660-8090 or send a message to info@challengeadventures.com.
